A simply fantastic virgin hot toddy with honey, lemon and spices! Add a dash of orange juice and you have a slightly citrus beverage to enjoy.

Traditional hot toddy recipes have alcohol such as whiskey or bourbon. Here’s a virgin hot toddy recipe that the whole family can enjoy! Whether you need it to snuggle up with for a cold night or to provide some relief from a stinky cold.

I wouldn't say a hot toddy cures the common cold, but it sholl makes you feel better.

This was inspired by my Sparkling Christmas Punch No Alcohol.

    Variations

    • Add a tea bag: Why not go ahead and make it a glorified cup of hot tea, lol
      • Green tea or chamomile tea at night would work great with this! You can even try Sleepytime tea if you have trouble falling asleep at night.
    • Add fresh ginger while the hot toddy is steeping

    Storage

If for whatever reason you don't finish your virgin hot toddy don't throw it out! You can store it in the fridge in a container with a lid or in a mason jar. Heat it up the next day, or in the next few hours, when you want it again.

    FAQ

What the heck is a hot toddy?

A hot toddy is pretty much just hot water, lemon, and honey mixed well in a mug. Optional ingredients that you can add in to spice up your cup are cinnamon, cloves, ginger, a tea bag or orange juice.

    Ingredients

    • ¾ cup hot water
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 1 tablespoon orange juice
    • 1 cinnamon stick or a pinch
    • ground cloves a pinch
    • 1 teaspoon honey

    Optional

    • 1 tea bag

    Instructions

    Stovetop

    • Add ¾ cup of water to a small pot on the stove. If you are using cinnamon sticks go ahead and add it now. If using ground cinnamon then you can wait to add it later. Let it come to a boil (should take 2-3 minutes).
    • Once it is at a boil turn off the heat. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes.
*If adding a tea bag you'll want to add that now while it steeps.
*If you are NOT using a cinnamon stick you can skip this step. No need for it to steep without a cinnamon stick.
    • Now you can add the lemon juice, orange juice, honey, a pinch of ground cloves and the ground cinnamon (if you are NOT using a cinnamon stick). Give it a stir and enjoy!

    Microwave

    • Microwave the water in a mug until hot. If you are using cinnamon sticks go ahead and add it now.
    • Take the mug out of the microwave and let it steep for 3-5 minutes, if using a cinnamon stick.
    • If you are NOT using a cinnamon stick, after you take the mug out of the microwave go ahead and add the lemon juice, orange juice, honey, a pinch of ground cloves and the ground cinnamon. Give it a stir and enjoy!

    Notes

The cinnamon and ground cloves can be left out if you either don't have it or don't want to use it.
Adding 1 teaspoon of honey is about 4 grams of added sugar. I wouldn't suggest to add more than that especially if you are going to have more than 1 serving of this throughout the day.
