Next time you eat a salad, leave the croutons on.

Croutons are like THE salad topping you probably always hear to never add to your salad. Stupid food rules.

A little bit of croutons never hurt anyone. And if adding them to a salad helps you to actually eat the salad, do it! Think of all the benefits you're getting from that salad.

These homemade whole wheat croutons are what you need. They are easy to make, healthy, and it only takes 8 minutes to bake.

    WIN-WIN, my friends.

How to Make Whole Wheat Croutons

Stack 2 slices of bread, cut in half, cut the halve in half, then cut into 8 pieces (as shown for my visual learners).
Serrated knives, like the picture shown, tend to be the best for cutting bread

Tips For Eating Homemade Whole Wheat Croutons

    • Add to salad or a favorite soup!
    • Use dry or fresh herbs
    • Chop with a knife for breadcrumbs (just to switch things up a bit!)

How to Store Whole Wheat Croutons

Store in a container with a tight lid in the pantry or on the kitchen counter. You can probably also store these in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Enjoy within 3 days for max freshness!

    Variations

    • Italian seasoning with garlic powder
    • Turmeric, thyme, garlic and onion powder
    • Go old school with just salt and pepper
    • Cajun seasoning
    • Garlic, thyme, rosemary and oregano
