Warm, cinnamon and ginger spiced stove-top apples for a breakfast topper or guilt-free dessert!
EASY STEWED APPLES NO SUGAR RECIPE
If you are searching for a healthy alternative to syrup or a guilt-free dessert then boy do I have a treat for you! Stewed apples are delicious because they remind us of apple pie. Except it doesn’t take quite as long nor have all the extra calories.
This is a recipe that you can easily whip up and let it cook on low while you fix your pancakes, waffles or Bagel French Toast or Eggless French Toast!
Ingredients
- Two large Granny Smith apples
- ½ cup 100% Apple juice
- A few dashes of cinnamon and ginger
Instructions
- Slice the apple into quarters and then diced it to the size of your liking.
- *Tip: Don't peel the skin!
- Add the apples, the apple juice and a few dashes of cinnamon and ginger to a small stockpot.
- After it reaches a simmering boil, turn it down to low and cook for no more than 10 minutes.

HOW TO SWEETEN STEWED APPLES NO SUGAR?
Probably the second-best thing about this recipe (the first best thing is how easy it is!) is the fact that it is naturally sweetened. That’s right! Let the natural sweetness of the Granny Smith apples combined with the dessert spices take over!
At this point, no sugar is needed to make this a delicious addition to either pancakes or oatmeal. As a Registered Dietitian, I know the importance of limiting “added sugars” in our diet.
By the way, did you know that women should keep added sugars to less than 24 grams of sugar per day and men should be under 36 grams of sugar per day?

DO YOU HAVE TO PEEL STEWED APPLES?
Nope, not at all! Actually, I recommend to keep the skin on the apple instead of peeling it.
Edible skins of fruits and vegetables provide fiber which is so vital for the prevention of many chronic diseases. For one serving of this recipe, you are adding 3 grams of fiber to your day! If the skin was peeled, this would pretty much be 0 grams of fiber.
