Golden delicious French toast without the eggs but with the same great taste!

    EASY EGGLESS FRENCH TOAST RECIPE

The rich smell of vanilla extract blended with cinnamon as it hits the griddle. That's some good stuff!

As much as I love to cook what I don't want to have to do is make a special trip to the store because I am using a recipe that calls for brioche bread. The odds of me making the recipe are pretty slim!

Most likely I would swap the bread for what I already have at home...100% whole wheat sandwich bread (or for some people this may also be regular white bread).

This recipe is for anyone who is might be like me and doesn't want to buy a special type of thick-cut bread that wouldn't typically be in the house.

Let me show you how it's done!

    Eggless French Toast

HOW TO MAKE EGGLESS FRENCH TOAST BATTER?

    Using a shallow dish:

    1. Add milk to the pan and then add cornstarch
    2. Use a fork to mix and get all of the clumps out. Make sure all clumps are out before you add anything else.
    3. Then add all of the cinnamon and vanilla extract
    4. Add 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed (optional)
    5. Mix well! Your batter is ready.

HOW TO MAKE EGGLESS FRENCH TOAST RECIPE

    Ingredients:

Since this recipe uses regular bread, it is very important to not dunk the bread in the batter! The French toast will come out very soggy if you do this.

You'll want to use a pastry brush to brush both sides with the batter.

Quickly add the bread to your hot pan with oil.

Let it cook for a minute or so on each soon. Then you're done!

The full and detailed recipe is at the bottom.

    BEST FRENCH TOAST TOPPINGS:

    • Stewed Apples No Sugar Added
    • Sliced bananas, chopped walnuts and a drizzle of honey
    • Berries
      • Take ½ cup of frozen blueberries and microwave them until there are juices. Place on top French Toast.
    • Honey or maple syrup
    • A drizzle of warm peanut butter
    • A dollop of yogurt
    • Sliced strawberries
    • Or even ice cream (yum!)

WHAT TO SERVE WITH THESE AMAZING FRENCH TOAST:

These French toast are amazing with the toppings listed above! The great thing about this recipe is that you really don't have to add much to it once you're done.

If you are looking to add additional protein then these are great choices:

    • Chopped nuts
    • Greek yogurt (just watch the amount of added sugars)
    • Chia seeds
    • Turkey bacon/sausage
    • Chicken sausage
    • Canadian bacon
    • Uncured ham

      Equipment

      Nonstick skillet
      Fork
      Pastry brush
      Shallow dish
      Spatula

      Ingredients

      • 8 slices whole wheat bread
      • ½ cup Silk, plain Soymilk use whatever milk you have on hand but just know whole milk adds more calories/saturated fat; almond milk would add fewer calories/saturated fat
      • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
      • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
      • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
      • 2 tablespoon ground flaxseed optional
      • 8 teaspoon canola oil 1 teaspoon of oil per slice of bread when using a small skillet (If using a larger skillet, just use 1 tablespoon for 2 slices of bread)

      Instructions

      • Pour milk into a shallow dish, add the cornstarch and then mix until all the clumps are out with a fork.
      • Once all of the clumps are out, add all of the cinnamon and vanilla extract to the milk mixture. Add 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed to the mixture.
*Feel free to add more ground flaxseed as you desire
      • Place the non-stick pan on the stove and turn on medium-high heat. On a separate plate, use the pastry brush to coat both sides of one slice of bread.
*Here you have the option of sprinkling more ground flaxseed on each side of the bread.

      WHEN USING A SMALL PAN

      • Add one teaspoon of oil to the pan. Add one slice of bread to the pan and lift the edges of the toast with the spatula to keep the bread from sticking to the pan.
*Keep an eye on it. It may only need to cook for a minute and a half each side.
Flip the bread over to cook the remaining side. The French toast should be golden brown on each side. You do not need to add additional oil to the pan. Use one teaspoon of oil per slice of bread.

      WHEN USING A LARGER PAN

      • Add 1 tablespoon of oil to the pan. Use two slices of bread and follow the same instructions as above.
*This method changes the nutrition a little because it will add more fat.
      • If desired, keep the French Toast warm while you cook by using the "keep warm" feature or turning the oven on to 250°. Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

      Notes

*Using ground flaxseed is optional. The nutrition information calculated for this recipe does not include ground flaxseed. Adding ground flax to this recipe would increase the fiber to 5 grams per 2 slices.
