What You'll Need to Make 5 Minute Granola

I don't know about you but I get so annoyed when I'm looking online for a recipe and it has too many ingredients I don't normally have in the house. Well! I think you'll find this easy super easy but delicious at the same time.

    Ingredients for 5 Minute Granola

    • Old fashioned oats
    • Nuts
      • Can't eat nuts? Check out my Nut-free granola recipe!
    • Ground flaxseed
      • This ingredient can be omitted if you don't have it...or if you just don't like it!
    • Maple syrup
    • Extra light tasting olive oil
      • This is very important! The extra light tasting olive oil is great for baking. I wouldn't use an olive oil for marinades in this recipe.
      • Canola oil can be substituted
    • Pumpkin spice
Here's the olive oil that you need

    Equipment

    • Sheet pan
    • Medium/large bowl
    • Spatula
    • Measuring spoons and cups

How to Make 5 Minute Granola

    1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
    2. Mix all dry ingredients well
    3. Add wet ingredients. Mix well. Clumps are ok!
    4. Leave the mixture a little clumped together, and bake for 5 minutes (no more!) at 400o

Can You Make Granola On The Stove?

The answer is yes, but I've found that it just doesn't have a yummy enough crunch on the stove. I LOVE the crunch that comes from baking the oats in the oven. This is just my preference and you may feel differently. Try it out both ways and decide which way you like it!

    Low Calorie Granola Recipe

I'd consider this a low-calorie granola recipe because it has ~118 calories per ¼ cup. Keep in mind there can be slight variations depending on the ingredients purchased.

    Granola Can Be Eaten With?

Besides the obvious choice of eating granola with yogurt, granola can be eaten in other ways!

    • On top of a plain cereal such as bran flakes or cheerios for extra flavor/sweetness!
    • As a snack all by itself
    • Eat granola with a cheese stick or with an additional two tablespoons of nuts for a balanced snack!
      • This is ideal if you are looking to add more protein to your snack choices.
    • Sprinkled on top of cooked oatmeal, muesli, or cream of wheat for a crunch
    • Sprinkled on a smoothie bowl
    • Add to your overnight oats

    How to Store

You’ll want to store your granola in a container with a tight lid to help keep it fresh. Eat within one week for maximum freshness. It probably won’t last much longer than that since it’s so good!

Granola can be stored on your counter or in the pantry.

    Medium/large bowl
    Spatula
    Measuring spoons and cups

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups old fashioned oats
    • ½ cup slivered almonds
    • ¼ cup ground flaxseed
    • 3 tablespoon maple syrup
    • 2 tablespoon extra light tasting olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon pumpkin spice

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 400°. Add all dry ingredients in the bowl and mix well.
    • Add all wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Mix well until the mixture starts to clump together a little (this is ok!).
    • *Optional: Line sheet pan with foil for easy cleanup.
Spread the mixture on the sheet pan using a spatula. It can be clumped together. Put sheetpan on the bottom shelf in the oven. Let cook for 5 minutes. If it cooks longer it will burn.
    • Do not mix, let cool for at least 15 minutes, and transfer to a container with a tight lid.

    Notes

The serving size is ¼ cup
Leave the oats clumped together before baking and after you take it out of the oven. This gives you crunchy granola! Do not cook for more than 5 minutes. It will start to burn.
    Substitutions:
    • Use any type of nuts that you have on hand (walnuts, pecans)
    • Canola oil can be substituted for the extra light olive oil
    • Honey can be used instead of maple syrup
I prefer this method of baking the oats vs cooking them on the stove. I just find that toasting the oats on the stove doesn't give the same yummy crunch!
